胡适（1891-1962），现代学者、历史学、文学家、尝试派代表。1917年在《新青年》上发表白话新诗，出版中国第一部白话诗集《尝试集》。曾任北京大学校长、驻美大使。胡适一生在哲学、文学、史学、古典文学考证方面都有成就。著有《五十年来之中国文学》、《白话文学史》、《中国章回小说考证》等。出版诗集《尝试集》、《胡适诗存》等。学术著作有《中国哲学史大纲》、《戴东原的哲学》、《淮南王书》、《说儒》等。
Hope

闻一多（1899-1946），名亦多，字友三、友山。他致力于研究新诗格律化的理论，在论文《诗的格律》中，他要求新诗具有“音乐的美（音节），绘画的美（词藻），还有建筑的美（节的匀称和句的均齐）”。著有诗集《红烛》、《死水》。学术著作有《神话与诗》、《唐诗杂论》、《古典新义》、《楚辞校补》等。闻一多的主要著作收集在《闻一多全集》中。
One Sentence

Though for five thousand years we have not said it clear
Can you outguess why the volcano's silent here?
Perhaps it has suddenly become possessed, too!
Suddenly there's a thunderbolt from the sky blue
A roar of thunder:
"Our China! "
Alas, how can this word let me explain today?
If you don't believe iron trees bloom,that's okay.
Then here you do listen to me for a sentence:
When the volcano could not help but silence;
Don't tremble, put out your tongue and stamp your feet, too
Let's wait for a thunderbolt out of the sky blue
A roar of thunder:
"Our China!"

A Slogan

Can you outguess the dormant volcano?

In what way shall I say it today?
The sago palm never blooms? Okay.
I demand you to lend your ears to this:
When the volcano’s silence shall cease,
Shocked, don’t you ever stamp or shudder,

Coast to Coast*

Peach Blossom Snow

We Live on the Greens

One Thousand-Foot Cascade

Hundred-foot-tall Cataract

The white water in the lake
Will flow down vigorously a thousand feet,
And fall to be
Chute one,
Chute two,
Chute three,
Like the rebirth of a phoenix,
Turning into stupendous scene.
The shattering feat
Reminds me of myself,
As if there’s one hundred-foot-tall cataract,
Sleep quietly and deeply in my body.
Maybe it exists
Just for one person.
Maybe some year, some month, some day,
In a sudden moment, this cataract
Will awake and shatter.
Then whose scene will it be?
